2/5 BAP recap

We had our largest get together yet with the following attendees: Dennis Mojado, Derek Powazek, Jessica Pezalla, John Curley, Jose Luis Martinez, Kevin Bjorke, Lilia Ahner, Lucas J. Shuman, Martin Taylor, Michael David Murphy, Paul Cloutier, Pete Beck, Russ Morris, Steve Rhodes and Victor Zhang.

While it wasn't raining, it was a tad chilly and I should have added the caveat "dress warmly." Russ Morris has posted 6 photos from the event to his Flickr stream. Many admired and even experimented with Paul's fabulous Frankenlens (Diana lens mounted onto a Canon body cap).

Thanks to everyone for coming out.

Nice talking with all of you, and big thanks to Heather and Derek for setting it up. (And I loved your things on display inside! Good luck with your opening on Friday.)

Geeky high point, in my view, was when we were discussing the relative merits of Canon master/slave flash arrangements. When a group of people in San Francisco is discussing masters and slaves, well, it's just mighty damned interesting!

I think it would be a great thing to have event listings posted here, ones that might lend themselves to good photography, or even a list of "insider" places you simply have to explore if you like photography and you live in the bay area. My first offering would be the Albany Bulb (I realize it's pretty well-known), which is full of very interesting "found" art objects.

My daughter Rebecca & I came to the BAP get-together directly after a gallery-hop over at 49 Geary (south bay types make use of our city time! heh) -- went to see the Irving Penn at Fraenkle ("Underfoot" -- once again Penn confounds expectations, bless him), then saw Rolf Horne @ Nichols (i like him but there is a sort of sameness that maybe comes from the long shadows of Michael Kenna & Adams), Michael Wolf @ Koch (rocks, great stuff), Tokihiro Sato @ Haines (interesting, makes me wonder about how different it is from his current museum show in Chicago), Thomas Wrede @ Nicholson (favorite of the afternoon). Seemed like a good use of the time between 1 and 3 PM
